News, tips, and info for squash players
Please take the time to read this
Dear squashers,
First of all, we have good news for the fanatic squash players.
We've decided to start again with 90-minute subscriptions from tomorrow, October 1st. We say "again" because we've done this before. We stopped for various reasons, but unfortunately, it hasn't turned out as we had hoped.
Up until today, you could play on with a 60-minute subscription if the court was still free. From tomorrow, that will no longer be possible; 60 minutes will be exactly 60 minutes, whether it's off-peak or peak. We understand that this may come as a surprise, so for everyone who currently has a 60-minute subscription, we have upgraded your subscription to 90 minutes free of charge. Whether it's for 1, 6 or 12 months. This is a one-time offer and we hope you are happy with this. If you have a 60-minute subscription, you can book for 90 minutes from tomorrow up to the expiry date of your subscription.
Membership courses
We also have squashers who do not have a membership and we want to keep them happy too. We expect that due to this change the courts will be more occupied and will therefore reserve court 1 for non-members during peak hours. If there is space on the non-members' court on the same day you wish to play, you can reserve that court by telephone from 12:00 PM.
Note: Should the courts become too busy such that non-members can barely book, then we can consider reserving court 2 for non-members during peak hours as well. But we are a long way from that.
No price increase.
Some subscriptions have even been made cheaper. For example, the off-peak hours and the squash & fitness prices have become cheaper and much more attractive.
Weekend squasher – Daluren
We are making it more attractive to come squash during off-peak hours on weekends. 45 minutes will cost from 1st Oct €9.90 instead of €12.00, and for each additional quarter of an hour, it will be €3.30.
Parking and accessibility
It will be known by now that it has become paid parking. A great shame, but luckily they aren't city centre prices.
TIP: The car park at the shops (Belgiëplein) is a blue zone, where you can park for free for up to 90 minutes. From 7 PM onwards, you don't have to pay anywhere, and on Sundays, it's free all day.
The pavement/square around Match is getting a renovation. It will be nice but will involve sand and be messy. The door to our terrace will probably become the access for athletes for a while. This will be indicated in due course. It starts on 14th October and will last until just before Christmas. You can find more information here. https://www.amsterdam.nl/projecten/winkelcentrumnieuwsloten/
Vending machine
There will be a more varied selection in the vending machine and some products will be reduced in price tomorrow. These products may be consumed at the bar. The intention is not to take them to the terrace or to the catering area; we have bottles and other prices for those areas.
Bar actions
If you're at the bar, there are various promotions advertised on the chalkboards hanging above it.
House 7
Soon, court 7, where the net hangs between courts 6 and 7, will be closed off as it will be used for Zumba and salsa classes during off-peak hours. This will limit noise. Play will still be possible.
Why these changes
We are seeing a clear decline in court bookings and membership. We want to do something about this. What's the point of empty courts, it's also very uninviting. But why is this decline happening? Is it because of Padel, is squash less popular, is it not interesting for young people, is it too expensive, is it because of paid parking or...? We don't know exactly. Making it much cheaper isn't an option, we need to make a living from it too.
We hope you are happy with these changes.
Comments or suggestions are always welcome via in**@************ch.nl Or speak to us when you're there.
On Sunday 3rd November, it's the Match Autumn Tournament. There are already 16 entries, but there's definitely still space. It promises to be another enjoyable day with nice prizes to be won.
Note: You don't have to be a member. Everyone is welcome. You can register here
Kind regards,
Sport Club Match & Eatery Thijs
